How to Enhance Motor Performance by Optimization of Arc Magnet The vast majority of Neodymium arc magnet serve as motor magnet. Besides magnetic performance and surface treatment, both shape and structure of the magnet have significantly impacts on the motor performance. It is a challenge for slotted motor to avoid cogging torque caused by interaction between the magnet and the stator tooth. In order to suppress torque ripple, vibration, and noise generated by cogging torque, curved magnet in either frequently-used radial flux motor or axial flux motor can be modified into the skewed shape. Eddy current is generally leading the temperature rise in the permanent magnet and caused demagnetization. Hence decreased the working efficiency of the motor. Laminated arc magnet which made by bonding several pieced of thin magnet together can dramatically reduce the eddy current loss without replacing the original structure and performance of the motor.

Coating

The following is a list and description of common plating options for custom magnets.Why do magnets need to be plated?

Oxidization (Rust) NdFeB magnets will oxidize(rust) if left exposed. When a plating wears down or cracks, the exposed area will oxidize. An oxidized area will not result in complete degradation of the magnet, only the oxidized area will lose its strength. However the magnet will lose some structural integrity and become more susceptible to breakage.
DurabilityDepending on shape, permanent magnet substrate is brittle. A multilayered metal plating like nickel or zinc improves the magnets resistance to chipping and wear, particularly around corners.
Harsh Environments Platings vary in their tolerance of different harsh chemicals and abrasion. Salt and humidity in regions near the ocean are commonly overlooked when selecting a plating. Be sure to consider the magnets environment when selecting a plating.
The most common type of plating for neodymium magnets Nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni) Intended for indoor use. It has proven to be very resilient when subjected to normal wear and tear. However it will corrode oudoors in prolonged exposure to salt water, salty air,or harsh chemicals.

Manufacturing Process

Sintered Neodymium magnet is prepared by the raw materials being melted under vacuum or inert gas atmosphere in an induction melting furnace and processed in the strip caster and thus cooled to form alloy strip. The strips are crushed and pulverized to form a fine powder ranging from 3 to 7 microns in particle size. The powder is subsequently compacted in an aligning field and sintered into dense bodies. The blanks are then machined to the specific shapes, surface treated and magnetized.
